Day 1 Thursday July 5, 2007

We left Tulsa at 6pm July 4 for an all night 1100 mile drive to the Arizona / Mexican border. Myself, my son Eric, as well as friend (and loyal KFAQ listener) Claude Taucher arrived 17 hours later, here in Cochise County.

We listened to KFAQ's powerful signal while driving. When Chris and Elvis cranked up the Morning Show at 5:30am today, we were cruising about 200 miles south of Albuquerque, NM on Interstate 25. The signal was so clear, that we decided to call in! Chris and Elvis seemed pleasently surprised. Many Tulsans just don't realize that KFAQ's 50,000 watt blowtorch reaches so far! I will be on KFAQ live with Chris Medlock in the morning about 8:10 Central Time for my first installment of the trip.

We're set to go to the Mexican border at noon tomorrow 7/6/07. We'll go to the Border Patrol Station at Naco, Inspect the Minutemen Fence built by volunteer labor and donated materials, Look 300 miles into Mexico from the top of the Huachucha Mountains, and interview a young family whose rural home in Palominas, AZ backs right up to the Mexican border. Our guide for the Minuteman tour will be Al Garza of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corp. I look forward to interviewing Al concerning the most recent Minuteman muster. The main stream media simply will not report how many illegal alien lives are saved by Minutemen who are certified for Search and Rescue, as well as Paramedic service. These guys and gals are true heroes, helping illegals before calling the Border Patrol for deportation. How's that for showing God's love to your enemies?!

So, we've arrived and we are set for a full day tomorrow. Stay tuned to KFAQ for daily installments from the Border - thoughout the weekend.

Day 2 Friday July 6, 2007

Our day began at 5:30 am and ended at 2 am. I guess I'll sleep when we get home! Did a segment with Chris and Elvis on the KFAQ Mornings Show at 8:10 (6:10 here). We met Bill Simotti, our host, and headed for the Huachucha Mountains where Coronado crossed into America in the 1500s. This is a 9,500 ft peak where we looked a hundred miles into Mexico.

Then we traveled to the Border Point of entry at Naco, AZ - just a few miles north of recent violence at Canenea, Sonora Mexico. Very little has changed in this border town from the days of the Old West. Drug Lords live there inside local saloons, coming and going across the border as they please.

In Bisbee, we met Al Garza and Carmen Mercer, both with the Minuteman organization. They led us to the site of the Minuteman Border Fence where I had the most extraordinary day I've had in years. I have no doubt that we are at war with Mexico, and yet our Government refuses to acknowlege this fact. Other than the undermanned Border Patrol, officials will do very little to enforce laws here in Cochise County. Meeting the local Minutemen, the Landowner Richard Hodges and being carefully observed by the bad guys a few hundred yards to our south made for a full day. We have no idea up in Oklahoma just how dangerous the border has become. Richard Hodges told us stories of many people who have died on the very places we were standing. Drug Lords, People Smugglers, Illegals from Terrorist nations, the list goes on. On average, 33 illegal aliens are apprehended by Border patrol on this ranchers one mile stretch of land Every Day! (Not counting the many who get away, estimated at at only 1 in 10 who are caught) Last week, One day netted 64 illegals in his pasture. Bill Simotti has listened to Border Patrol radio traffic at night and heard BP pilots tell agents on the ground: "Leave that group of 30 alone, there's a group of 300 crossing over here!"

I had wondered if the Minuteman Fence was really just a fundraising tool. A mere photo-op - sort of like TV Evangelists who fly in to take pictures with starving children in Haiti. But this is the real deal here. The Fence is in one of the worst places on the border. Staging areas and an abandoned Concrete Plant / Rock Quarry now used to process and package Drugs can be seen a few hundred yards just across the border. We were actually observed and stalked by some bad guys as we stood on the border road. They threw rocks at us - as if to say: "We could kill you if we wanted to". The only thing that would make the Minuteman Fence better is if the US Government would connect to each end of it and continue building east and west!

We finished the day by visiting a young family who live 1 mile from the border in rural Palominas, AZ. The threat of illegal alien activity is a daily thing for these folks. I can't wait to share the stories on The Heartland Show Sunday at 9am, and then on the KFAQ Mornings with Gwen and Chris this Monday. I may even call into Saturday Night with Elvis Polo this evening - you never know!

Until then, I'm on the Border - Bruce DeLay

Day 3 - Saturday July 7, 2007

Yesterday I met AZ landowner Richard Hodges. I do believe that meeting this man has had a profound effect on my life. More on this man - and his story - on the Heartland Show...

Our pace was a little less hectic today, and that's good because we're running on very little sleep. I had the privilege of interviewing two men who certainly have expert status on Border issues: Col. Ben Anderson (Ret), and David Stoddard a 27 year veteran of the US Border Patrol. Both men have extensive backgrounds here and understand the situation better than anyone else I've heard. I recommend The Anderson Report wesite at: www.azanderson.org and Dave Stoddards' column on the News with Views site at: www.newswithviews.com . I'll have plenty o' audio clips from these interviews to share in upcoming Heartland Shows.

To my surprise: Both men are optimistic about the future! Things look very bad at the border right now, truthfully the worst they've ever been. And both men believe things will get even worse. Dave says that there is tremendous momentum on the right side of the issue. He believes the illegal alien crowd will take to the streets in the Fall. As a result: There will violence in the US possibly by the end of this year. He said that States will take up the slack the Federal Government has left. The US Senate and House will decrease in power as State Legislators increase in influence. He praised our Oklahoma Law Makers for their leadership for other States to follow. Daves' prediction: Prosecution of Employers who hire illegal workers will increase, and deportations will exceed expectations. Another Revolution in Mexico is inevitable. I hope Dave is right, but I am more cautiously optimistic. Dave certainly knows his Mexican history, and I was very taken by this man. Ben Anderson holds similar views. He believes a Conservative will win the Presidency in '08. I walked away from the interview very encouraged.

I was able to call in to "Saturday Night with Elvis Polo" this evening and give the KFAQ listeners an update. If you don't normally listen on Saturday evenings 9 - Midnight, you really should check out the Show. I'm looking forward to the Heartland Show in the morning... even though it's 2 hours earlier here and I'll have to get up very early! "See" you then.

Until then - I'm on the Border. - Bruce DeLay

Day 4 - Border trip

We made it home last night (Tuesday 7/10). Approx 2500 miles round trip. I've got a ton of audio and video and still photos to wade through now...

Claude was a great traveling companion. He took some wonderful photos, and took turns driving. I'm glad he was able to go. Eric saw and heard things that very few boys his age have experienced. I myself was very much effected by the trip. I will be discovering just how deeply - in the weeks to come. It will take about a week to do all the computer work necessary to process the data. I'm going to have to enlist some help in getting it all done.

There was one thing I forgot to do while in Cochise County. In "honor" of our inept Homeland Security Director Michael Chertoff, I was going to take a photo of myself standing at the border fence... with my "Shirt-off". I'm sure that everyone is happy that getting that photo taken slipped my mind...!

A BIG thank you goes to our gracious host in Arizona, Bill Simotti. We could not have done this without my dear friend Bill. Also a huge Thank You to our guides and interviews: Al Garza, Carmen Mercer, Richard Hodges, Ben Anderson, and Dave Stoddard.

And to KFAQ: What would the Tulsa area do without a media outlet that is so strongly committed to "Stand Up For What's Right?" America is depending on the KFAQ-types across the nation right now - to tell the Truth when others are not. Once again, KFAQ is leading the way on the controversial issues of the day!

Glad to be home -- Bruce
