Be listening for our weekly spotlight on Mondays at 7:45 a.m., 12:45 p.m. and 5:45 p.m.
This week's featured organization is 12 & 12.
12 & 12 is one of the largest drug and alcohol inpatient facilities in the region. The nonprofit organization is accredited by The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) providing a full continuum of care. Bryan Day, Executive Director of 12 & 12 explains that a full continuum of care in drug and alcohol treatment is medically supervised detox, residential and co-occurring residential, halfway(or transitional) living, outpatient and intensive outpatient services. Day says, "We provide drug and alcohol treatment to around 5,000 individuals annually and we have a staff of 125 full time employees to provide that level of care and we employee everything in our service delivery structure from MDs, to licensed psychiatrists, to master degree clinicians, case managers, a fairly broad array of professionals to provide the service." 12 & 12 contracts with the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health, the Veterans Administration, and most of the major insurance providers. They also do a lot of diversion services providing treatment to those who are incarcerated to be able to reintegrate back into society. 12 & 12 started in 1985 and Day says they continue to grow and diversify their services to the community.
12 & 12 is collaborating with both the University of Oklahoma Tulsa and the state of Oklahoma. OU physicians and faculty are at 12 & 12 for a fully accredited psychiatric residency program and an addiction medicine program. Also, 12 & 12 is going through a 9 month process to become the state's first comprehensive community addiction recovery center. Day explains that this is a new designation within Oklahoma statutes that would make 12 & 12 an even more comprehensive facility with unique services for this area of the country.
Day says there are many opportunities for volunteers at 12 & 12, "We have volunteers that come in to 12 & 12 and help us out everywhere from kitchen duty to yard care." They are formalizing their volunteer program and individuals who want to learn more about drug and alcohol treatment are welcome to volunteer. As a non-profit organization Day says they are very much driven by donations. Donations can be given on their website: 12and12.org. Checks can be mailed to 12 & 12 headquarters at 6333 E. Skelly Drive Tulsa, OK 74135. 12 &12 is providing services to Veterans, many of which have served the US in recent years. Day explains that on any given day, 55-60 Veterans are receiving 12 & 12 services.
