Up With Trees
Up With Trees plants, preserves, and promotes Tulsa's urban forest.
Up With Trees is a nonprofit organization in Tulsa for nearly four decades. They plant trees and promote the importance of urban forestry. Executive Director Ana America says, "We are supported entirely by private donations and Tulsan's have been very generous. People in Tulsa love their trees and they show that by supporting Up with Trees and coming out and volunteering and helping support this program." America explains that beautification, air and water quality, and shade are some of the benefits of trees.
Up With Trees has 3 gallon trees from the Apache foundation and they are giving these trees away. Recipients are schools, churches, other non-profit organizations, and government agencies. For a $5.00 donation these trees are given to individuals. America says that over the past few years 50,000 trees have been distributed through that program. Also Up With Trees is receiving 10,000 seedlings of various species that they are giving away. Individuals can check Up With Trees website to pick up at tree on a designated distribution day. These seedlings are also distributed at environmental fairs and school visits.
On April 26th, Arbor Day, Up With Trees with have their annual fundraiser. America says this is their largest fundraiser of the year and it's "green tie optional." This event will be the first in the new Aloft hotel that is the renovated city hall building. Information about this event is on their website.
