OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Gov. Mary Fallin calls late state Sen. Gene Stipe ``a legend in Oklahoma politics.''

Fallin issued a statement Sunday following the Saturday death of the 85-year-old Stipe at his home in McAlester.

Fallin a Republican served in the state House and as lieutenant governor while Stipe a Democrat served in the Senate. Fallin was lieutenant governor when Stipe resigned in 2003 amid a congressional campaign finance scandal.

Fallin said Stipe seemed to know all his constituents by name and offered her thoughts and prayers to his family.
