Four arrested for stealing assault rifle, killing dog
TULSA (FOX 23) - A Midtown family who was burglarized Saturday is now asking the thieves to return their puppy.
Tulsa Police arrested four men for breaking into the home: Dominique Wilson, Tyler Prince, Dwayne Demons and Lloyd Trotter after police chased them from the home near South Utica and East Admiral around 6:30pm Saturday. Police say they were called to the home after witnesses saw men with guns and heard gun shots at the house. When officers arrived, the men ran out of the house.
The puppy that was stolen was the only one to survive from a litter of 12. It’s a gray pit-bull. The pup’s mother was killed during the burglary.
"She died defending her home, couldn't ask for anything better," said Owen McCool, the owner of the pit-bull.
Memories are all he has left of her. McCool buried his guard dog Sunday, a day after burglars shot her three times.
He rescued her from a dog fighting ring. McCool told FOX23 he worked hard to give her a good life.
"Like why? It just don't make no sense," he said.
"That's what she was there for (protecting the home). That's what she was trained for but she didn't deserve to die like that," said Deedra Taylor, Owen’s girlfriend.
The family says they know the men arrested. They say they live right down the street. The 20 inch flat screen television was stolen along with Taylor’s computer monitor. But what the couple really wants back is their puppy. Their children can't believe he was stolen.
"The most hurtful thing is they know who it was but they don't know why would they do that to us," said Taylor.
When the thieves grabbed the electronics they ran across the street and through a driveway. Three neighbors followed right behind leading police to the men.
"We caught them coming out of the other side," One of the neighbors told FOX23.
He didn't want to be identified but told FOX23 he helped police make the arrests.
Police are still on the hunt for a fifth suspect. Neighbors say they will stand up for each other.
"I look after my neighbors like they're family," he said.
McCool has a message for the thieves.
"It ain't gone go unpunished. Imma make sure and see through to the fullest ya'll get the most of what comes out of it,” he said.
McCool said he will be speaking with the Tulsa SPCA about how to proceed further legally.
The couple wasn't home at the time. Marijuana, prescription drugs and an assault rifle with 18 rounds was found on the men at the time of the arrest.
The men were all arrested for second degree burglary, cruelty to animals, resisting arrest and possession of a firearm while committing a felony. Prince and Wilson were also arrested for possession of marijuana, while Demon and Trotter are also being held on one complaint each of possession of prescription medication. Their bonds range from $19,750 to $26,000.
