Jackson to attend forum on ex-OSU player
STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) - The Rev. Jesse Jackson is expected to visit Stillwater this week for a public forum on the conviction of former Oklahoma State basketball player Darrell Williams.
Jackson is expected to participate in the event Thursday, a day before Williams is scheduled to be formally sentenced on two counts of rape by instrumentation. A Payne County jury convicted him July 23 and recommended a year in prison on each count.
The Oklahoma State University chapter of the NAACP became involved because Williams' supporters believe race was a factor in the outcome. Williams is black; his two accusers are white and there were no black jurors.
A social-media campaign has requested an appeal.
The Stillwater NewsPress reports the two women who accused Williams attended a vigil Tuesday to support sexual assault victims.
