Tulane safety Devon Walker hurt in game at Tulsa

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Tulane's team doctor says safety Devon Walker fractured his spine in a head-to-head collision with a teammate during a game in Tulsa.

The Tulsa (Okla.) World and the (New Orleans) Times-Picayune report that Dr. Buddy Savoie said Saturday during a postgame news conference that Walker will need spinal surgery in the upcoming days.

According to the football team's Twitter account, Walker was in stable condition.

Tulane assistant athletic director Roger Dunaway confirmed Walker was hurt during a game with Tulsa and taken off the field in an ambulance that transported him to a Tulsa hospital.

Walker is a senior majoring in cell and molecular biology.
