Cause of fire at TSAS expected soon
TULSA (FOX 23) - The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms is expected to finish its investigation into what started the fire at the Tulsa school of the Arts and Sciences Friday.
Last Wednesday, eight firefighters were hurt when the school exploded multiple times.
Three of those firefighters remain hospitalized.
Meantime, Tulsa Public Schools faces another problem with people trespassing into the burned building trying to salvage anything they can find.
TPS put the fence up around two Thursday afternoon. The District says they believe people with a connection to this school want to preserve memories say it’s too dangerous.
"You just have to keep a safe distance. It's not safe," said Cindy Robinett, a mother of a Tulsa School of Arts and Science Student.
She knows memories are special but doesn't understand why anyone would go in a building that is unstable trying to find something to salvage.
"It's sad that people are going into a dangerous place," Robinett told FOX23.
Security guards told me they've had to run off six to seven teens this week from going in the building. TPS says the building isn't secure, the environment throughout the site is hazardous and ATF still has an investigation to finish.
"I respect people and they want to go and look at it. They’re curious, said Rebecca Robinett, Cindy’s daughter. “But if they're trying to take things, which is what I heard. That’s still our stuff and that's really hard."
"I like to call them ghouls who like to pick over the remains and get stuff out of there," said Roger Widdows, who lives near school.
TPS is hoping the continued 24 hour security, seven days a week and a fence around the property will keep anyone who doesn't belong here out.
"I can kind of see what the temptation would be but they got to stay away though," said Robinett.
We could know what started the fire as early as Friday.
