Former Jenks teacher charged in bank robbery
TULSA (FOX 23) - A former Jenks teacher is charged with bank robbery. Stina Roi McMath is charged with conspiracy and bank burglary for the 2007 robbery of an Arvest Bank near 71st and Sheridan. Charges were filed against McMath and two other suspects, Rosally Mangual and Ryan Lee Mitchell, on September 6th.
The indictment alleges McMath drove Mangual and Mitchell to the bank on September 16th, 2007 and waited on a side street while they robbed the bank. McMath then allegedly drove away with the other suspects after the robbery and split the money between them.
FOX23 asked Eric Johnston the Assistant United States Attorney why it took so long to bring the charges. He offered this statement:
"It would be inappropriate to comment at this time because it is a pending case"
Parents with children attending Jenks Middle School told FOX23 they were surprised to find out about the charges.
"You can't escape these things in our society," said the parent of an 8th grade student at Jenks Middle School, James Fleckenstein, "It's a little bit shocking."
Joyce Puroff said, "It's a very sad situation."
Pennie Ontiveros told FOX23 she and her 8th grade daughter were shocked when they learned about the charges. "It's crazy to think that something like that could past everyone," said Ontiveros. McMath was a teacher at the Jenks Middle School but resigned on September 12th of this year. She’d been with the school system since the beginning of this school year.
The school district released this statement in an email:
"Stina McMath was employed as a Language Arts teacher at Jenks Middle School from August 6, 2012 until September 12, 2012. Her resignation was approved by the Jenks Board of Education on September 17, 2012."
Students told FOX23 that they talked about the news in the hallways at school.
"I just thought that was crazy," said one 8th grade student, "A teacher with a get away car?"
Another 8th grade student, Lauren, said, "They set examples for us and we follow what they do and that she did that, its just surprising."
