Lawmakers eye performance pay for workers
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - State leaders say an across-the-board pay hike for state workers is unlikely but several are embracing the idea of salary increases tied to performance reviews and private-sector wages.
The House Appropriations and Budget Committee met Tuesday to discuss improving pay for state workers. The last across-the-board raise for state employees was in 2006 when Democrats controlled the Senate and the governor's office.
With Republicans now in control of state government, Gov. Mary Fallin's Secretary of Finance Preston Doerflinger says state workers shouldn't give up hope of getting a raise.
Doerflinger says that while he opposes an across-the-board raise for all state workers he favors a plan to give pay hikes to workers based on performance reviews and tie state salaries closer to those in the private sector.
