Mixed effects of winter weather on state highways
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Oklahoma highways remain slick statewide tonight after a winter storm, with snow drifts on Interstate 40 between Oklahoma City and the Texas state line.
The snow has stopped in much of the state, but high winds are piling up snow, creating problems for motorists. In southeastern Oklahoma, conditions are worst in the Ouachita Mountains.
In eastern Oklahoma, crews plan to work overnight to treat Interstate 40 to keep traffic moving.
Highways in the Oklahoma City and Tulsa areas were mainly clear late Tuesday night and crews are prepared to treat isolated areas as needed throughout the night. Commuters should plan extra travel time in the morning and make sure cars are clear of ice before driving.
Travel is highly discouraged.
