Oklahoma National Guard gets new helicopters
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - The Oklahoma Army National Guard is getting four new helicopters to replace a fleet of 30-year-old aircraft.
The guard said Thursday it will receive four UH-72A ``Lakota'' helicopters in 2013. The helicopters will replace four OH-58C ``Kiowa'' helicopters that the guard has used for more than 30 years.
The first two new helicopters are to arrive in April, with the other two coming in May.
The guard says the UH-72A is a twin engine platform with a single four-bladed main rotor.
The guard said the new aircraft will give soldiers greater capabilities in emergency support missions, including homeland security, disaster-response, firefighting and medical evacuations.
Pilots are now being trained to fly the UH-72s.
