2 former lawmakers face trial for bribery
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Two former Oklahoma lawmakers facing felony bribery charges have been formally bound over for trial.
Former Rep. Randy Terrill of Moore and former Sen. Debbe Leftwich of Oklahoma City appeared before Oklahoma County Special Judge Stephen Alcorn Friday. Alcorn ruled in November 2011 there is sufficient evidence to try Leftwich and Terrill for bribery. On Wednesday, a state appeals court upheld Alcorn's decision to disallow conspiracy charges in the case.
Alcorn set a March 20 hearing date before District Judge Glenn Jones and entered not guilty pleas for each of the former lawmakers.
Prosecutors allege Terrill and Leftwich schemed to set Leftwich up in a state job so a colleague of Terrill's could run for her open seat in 2010.
Bribery is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
