Cold case arrest
SALLISAW, Okla. (AP) - Authorities in eastern Oklahoma have arrested a Sallisaw man in connection with a killing that's been unsolved for more than 15 years.
Sequoyah County Sheriff Ron Lockhart says authorities arrested 38-year-old Rex Robbins on Wednesday. Robbins was arrested on a first-degree murder complaint in the 1997 death of 28-year-old Mitchell Nixon.
The Southwest Times Record (http://is.gd/1rrIfv ) reports that a utility worker found Nixon dead from suspected blunt force trauma.
The sheriff says his office reopened about 10 unsolved cases when he took office four years ago. He says investigators interviewed Robbins several times within the past few years and that Robbins was arrested after authorities found inconsistencies in his statements.
Robbins is being held at the Sequoyah County jail. Authorities did not know if he had an attorney.
